For Children (or children at heart!)
Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre
This Wildlife Centre overlooks Comrie and comes highly recommended by George and Ellie as a good day out, with animals galore, and (more importantly in their opinion) a superb play area and covered playbarn. With many Scottish animals, and a few immigrants too, there is plenty to see at this very child-friendly centre. There are several picnic areas and a coffee shop and gift shop. Baby animals are there to be fed during springtime, and rabbits, guinea pigs and chicks to cuddle throughout the year.
Located a mile or so outside Crieff, the Ceramic Experience gives you the chance to decorate anything from a whole range of ceramics - from tiles to seasonal ornaments, plates to platters, using child-friendly glazes. After firing, these are collected after a day or two, or can be posted to you.
They also do great coffee etc, and have a soft-play area to use whilst paints are drying - or while the coffee is being drunk.
The attitude of the staff makes this well worth a visit - they are so tolerant of the children and relaxed in their way of working…
Just outside Perth, Noah's Ark is a massive, specially equipped children's softplay barn, with separate areas for the under 5's and the 5-12's. Great for getting rid of that excess energy…
Macrosty Park is a beautiful Victorian park, which runs alongside the river. There is an enclosed playground with swings, sandpit, seesaws etc, trampolines, and tennis courts. In another section of the park, there is another play area, which is more in the 'adventure' style. There are picnic tables scattered around. A small stream runs along the bottom of the park, ideal for a bit of paddling.
Strathearn Recreation Centre has a small pool, ideal for swimming and splashing about. They often have float or inflatable sessions for kids.
Perth swimming pool is somewhat larger and more elaborate than the Strathearn Recreation Centre's pool. It has flumes, play areas, waves, slides, rapids… all in all a fun place to go. There is also a crèche facility and cafeteria.
Huntingtower & Elcho Castle
Huntingtower Castle is off the A85, just before Perth. Elcho Castle is East of Perth. Both are large 'traditional' castles, with plenty of space for the children to explore, turrets and spiral staircases. They both have picnic tables in the grounds with plenty of grass areas for play.
